As a State & Local Tax Manager you will manage a variety of projects related to our clients’ state and local corporate income/franchise tax needs. He/she will be responsible for the following:

Job Responsibilities

  • Interact with clients demonstrating a deep knowledge of state and local tax compliance and strategies, identify client issues and conflicts; proactively communicate solution options to client
  • Provide tax defense representation, attend hearings and meet with agents to resolve issues during income tax, sales tax, and nexus exams
  • Create and/or review multi-state Apportionment Schedules for optimization and tax return purposes
  • Identify, design, and implement tax planning strategies to minimize taxes and reduce tax compliance burdens
  • Prepare and/or review Income Tax Provisions related to state deferrals, rate, and FIN48 calculations
  • Draft and communicate advisories to clients and staff
  • Update the firm’s apportionment schedule templates and other multi-state charts on an annual basis
  • Draft technical memoranda, including FIN48, sales sourcing, and nexus memoranda.
  • Monitor changes in state laws, including changes in apportionment formulas, sales factor sourcing rules, combined versus separate states, consolidated elections, water’s-edge and worldwide elections, state DRDs, and state rates. Update the firm’s apportionment schedule templates and other multi-state charts on an annual basis.
  • Conduct nexus analysis and nexus planning.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • MST, JD, or other advanced degree/professional designation preferred
  • CPA or EA certification required
  • 7+ years of technical tax experience in public accounting, or related field
  • Demonstrated expertise in multi-state tax issues with an understanding of all states’ tax schemes, including differing sourcing rules and the mechanics of each states’ income, franchise, and sales tax statutes
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing both internally and externally
  • Excellent presentation skills with the ability to influence others and convey technical information to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work under pressure in stressful circumstances and deescalate situations
  • Proficient use of applicable technology and research tools

We are looking for a candidate to work full time. Normal hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm overtime during our peak season: January through April and sporadically through the rest of the year. These periods require increasing normal weekly hours, which include weekends.
